Under-slab Leak Repair
What is an Under-Slab Leak?
Before the foundation is poured for your home or business, there are hard-to-reach piping systems that are put down for your plumbing. “Slab” is just another word for foundation. A slab leak is usually going to be a leaking water pipe underneath the slab of your home or business.
How Does Under-Slab Leak Repair Work?
Slab leak repair in Houston is inevitable with our highly active soil conditions among a number of other factors. In some cases the pipes crack under the slab or the joints form a leak. Slab leaks are a serious problem and are in most situations, difficult to access because of where they are sitting. As the water leaks under the house it washes out the soil and compromises the structure and support of the slab which can lead to cracks in your foundation from the size of a single strand of hair to one or more inches wide. At this point the water has only one way to go - into your home or business. From there you may be looking at water damage in your home and the issues just compile from there. Signs to look out for if you suspect you may have a leak under your slab are sounds of water running when no sinks, showers, or other units are on, higher water bill that does not have a reasonable explanation, warm spots/ discolored/ or damp flooring, bad smell coming from the floor, and you may also notice that the lawn has an uneven rate of growth. Fixing a slab leak is a job for a licensed plumber and I Am Your Plumber is ready to be here for you if you think you may have a leak underneath your slab or foundation.

What Is The Process For Under-Slab Leak Repair?
If you need a foundation or slab leak repair then there will be a few things to consider and decide on up front. We already know that if you do not repair the leak then you are looking at massive amounts of potential damages in the home and money for complete restoration of your property - so that is not in question. We know the repair is a MUST. The items in question will be the age and the condition of the materials that make up the current system. If the plumbing system is fairly new and in decent shape you may only need a repair, but if the system is old and the materials are deteriorating you may want to have the system replaced so that you do not have any issues following this project. When it is time to get started we will set ourselves up to locate the leak by tracing the lines underneath the slab to find where the water lines run. There are many ways to trace the water lines. The pipes are usually copper. One method that we like utilizes millivolts that send tiny electrical currents through the pipes to reveal the problem area(s). Once the leak is detected we will need to determine if it is best to break in to the slab, reroute the piping system or tunnel to gain access to the leak. This is not the kind of project that you can DYI so please contact us today if you think you may have a leak in your foundation or slab.
